The
Refuge Pierredar
is located in the NW side of the massif de Diablerets, at 2298 m.
The hut can be reached in about 3h30 from the railway station of
les Diablerets over a marked trail.
With a car, one can save 30 mins by starting in le Creux de Champ.
Alternatively, one can start from the Scex Rouge via the glacier de Praprioz
and a via ferrata (about 2h).
The hut is guarded in summer by members of the Club de Pierredar.
On demand, simple meals can be served.
Alpine club members get a reduction on the, already modest, fees.
The hut has 22 places.

Observed from the village of les Diablerets,
the NW side of the Diablerets looks neither easily accessible nor inviting.
Appearances are misleading: the way to the hut goes mostly through forest
and green meadows in which sheep are grazing.
The hut is located on a huge ledge in a colourful area, inhabited by chamois.
A couple of eagles lives in the S face of the Scex Rouge.
The rock, which looks grey from below, is in fact mostly yellowish-orange.
This radical change in appearance is similar to what one experiences
on the Italian side of the Grandes Jorasses.
The hut is a good starting point for going to the Sommet des Diablerets
via the Pas du Lustre.
A via ferrata (marked white-blue-white) leads to the
Glacier de Praprio and to the Scex Rouge, from where the top is
reached over gentle glaciers.
History
After a visit of the spot in 1906, a group of people from Geneva and
the canton de Vaud first, during the summer of 1907, transformed a shephards shed
into a shelter, and the year after built a real hut.
The latter hut was inaugurated on August 23rd 1908.
The hut offered place to 15 people.
In the 1920's, the hut became more and more popular and was steadily enlarged.
A dormitory was added in the years 1928-1929.
In 1962, the capacity of the dormitory was increased to 22 places.
Work on the hut progressed throughout the 1970's and early 1980's ...
... until a first avalanche destroyed the roof in 1986, then the entire
hut in 1990.
A new hut has been built in the mean time, 300 m from the original spot,
better protected from avalanches.
Inaugurated on July 9th 1994, the present hut
is in many respects similar to Alpine club huts.
It features a comfortable dormitory, a kitchen and a dining room.
A toilet has been built at some distance from the hut.
The hut is property of the Club de Pierredar, founded in 1908.
