ITINERARY

Kals - Stüdlhütte - Großglockner - Kleinglockner - Adlersruhe - Stüdlhütte - Kals

The Großglockner is the highest mountain of Austria and is therefore very often visited, mostly via the normal route from the Adlersruhe (Erzherzog Johann hütte), just under the top.

The Stüdlgrat coming down forward and to the left, the normal route is seen in profile on the right. The Adlersruhe is located near the shoulder on the right.

ALTITUDE DIFFERENCES, TIMING AND RATING

From the parking over a good path to the Stüdlhütte, 6 km for +1180 m taking about 3h30. From the hut to the top over the Stüdlgrat (SW ridge), mostly II with some passages of III, in good granite. Numerous securing hooks and climbing aids are in place. The ridge would be presumably be rated AD in the Mt Blanc region. Descent via the normal route, presumably to be rated PD until 3500 m and F further down. About +1030 m of which nearly +600 m in the ridge.
